Slaughterhouse (1940)

Detail text

Cows go in at one end and meat comes out at the other.
This modern slaughterhouse does not require coal.
A steam engine was dispensed with in the design of the new slaughterhouse and uses electricity exclusively from the public network. Providing the chillers with their own steam engine would have some advantages, such as reliability and electricity costs, especially since the waste heat from the steam engine is good for cooking sausages, but butchers have proven to be poor machinists and steam engines are sensitive to rough handling. In the old slaughterhouse, the cost of repairs more than ate up the efficiency gain and so there is no steam jet to clean the equipment and rooms anymore.

Schlachthof (1940)

Detail text

Detail text
