Typisch norddeutscher Fachwerkhof
Das Getreide wird hier noch mit der Sense gemäht, zu Garben gebunden und zu traditionellen Heumanderl aufgestellt. In anderen Regionen auch Dieme genannt. Der Grund für diese seit vorgeschichtlicher Zeit tradierte Vorgehensweise: völlig trockenes Getreide lässt sich zwar noch mit einem Mähdrescher ernten aber nicht mit der Sense mähen. Erstens ist das Stroh dann hart wie Holz, zweitens fallen beim Schlag die Körner aus den Ähren. Noch leicht grünen Stängel lassen sich dagegen leicht mähen und beim trocknen im Heumanderl werden die Ären nicht mehr vom Wind bewegt, damit fallen die Körner nicht vorzeitig aus. Auch die Gefahr dass Sturm oder Regen das Getreide flach legt, ist damit gebannt. Auf den Boden gedrückte Halme lassen sich ebenfalls schwer mähen und trocken nicht mehr gut. Landwirte sprechen dann von Lagerung oder Lagergetreide. Damit ist nicht die Aufbewahrung gemeint, sondern das liegen der Halme. Noch grüne Halme können, wenn sie vom Wind nieder gedrückt wurden, wieder aufstehen. Die Pflanze verändert dazu in den Knoten das Wachstum so, dass es wie ein Gelenk wirkt. Gelbe oder trockene Halme sind dazu nicht mehr in der Lage.
