Solar parabolic thermal power plant

Detail text

In the troughs, oil is heated by the sun, which then evaporates water and drives a turbine. The technology is cheap and works well when the sky is often cloudless. The first solar power plants in California were already generating competitive electricity in 1984. Since the oil cools down slowly, such a power plant can also work into the night but is not ready for operation in the morning. Some power plants have been retrofitted with a gas burner so that the turbines can run 24 hours a day.

Parabolrinnenkraftwerke

Detail text
