Wesentliche Gründe für das vorläufige Scheitern der Technik waren neben der komplizierten Oberleitung die mangelnden Regelmöglichkeiten von Drehstrommotoren auf den Fahrzeugen. Auf der Versuchsstrecke hatten die Lokführer wenig zu tun, denn die Geschwindigkeit der Triebfahrzeuge wurde im Leitstand durch Wahl der passenden Drehstromfrequenz geregelt – ein Verfahren, dass für den Bahnalltag mit vielen Fahrzeugen an derselben Stromversorgung nicht praktikabel gewesen wäre. Erst mit dem Aufkommen der Leistungselektronik in den 1960er Jahren ließen sich diese Probleme lösen.
