Oilfield

Detail text

An 'oil field' is an area under which a mineral oil deposit is located. The technical and medical uses of petroleum had been known for centuries, but it was only in the 19th century that technological advancements enabled the industrial exploitation of "oil fields," as underground oil deposits are called. Oil was already being extracted in Wietze, Germany, during the Middle Ages. Industrial production began there in 1858 with one of the world's first oil drilling. In 1930, oil and gas break into the Volkenroda potash mine. This discovery revealed the connection between salt domes and oil deposits. Until 1931, Volkenroda supplied a quarter of Germany's oil production.

Ölfeld

Detail text

Detail text
